Harley Dog Tees Origin Story

I had wanted a German Shepherd since I was a kid. My aunt Sally had a female German Shepherd named Tatse. That dog was beautiful and loyal and …a little bit scary. She wasn’t really interested in me. I was smitten with her.

Fast-forward about 40 years.  We got the opportunity to adopt a nine month old male German Shepherd named Harley Von Lebenshunger. Harley had originally been pegged to be a service dog for a disabled veteran. However, the family of the veteran decided they needed a dog that was already trained.  Harley went back to the breeder, got some basic obedience training and then we brought him home.

My veterinarian is a guy who used to own German Shepherds. At Harley’s first visit, my vet kept commenting on Harley‘s awesome temperament and good looks. I totally agreed with him, but I had no idea just how wonderful this dog was going to be.

Harley passed away this past spring surrounded by his humans. The kids who had grown up with him are now adults. They traveled from afar to be with him when he passed. It was a bittersweet day. Harley was almost 13 years old.

Harley was an incredibly remarkable dog. People tell me I should write children’s books about all the adventures and wonderful things he’s done. Maybe I will. Until then I’ll share his stories with you.

Harley Dog Tees is my homage to the greatest dog ever (in my opinion anyway).  It’s also for me to express my love and admiration for my four legged family members. And it’s for you, my friends who also have paw prints on your hearts.
